EASTFORD — At a special meeting held Tuesday, Aug. 25, the Board of Selectmen officially accepted the appointment of Amy Whitehouse as the new town treasurer, replacing outgoing treasurer Martha Burgess, who officially resigned on Aug. 3, along with Deputy Treasurer Kim Cyr.

The Republican Town Committee (chaired by Christopher Bowen) recommended Whitehouse’s appointment, which will allow her to finish Burgess’ current term. Burgess has served as Treasurer since her election in 2015 and was most recently elected uncontested in November 2025. According to the Board of Selectmen’s minutes from the Aug. 25 meeting, Whitehouse will serve from Aug. 22 to Nov. 16, 2027. The 2027 election is slated for Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2027.

In a statement to the Communicator, Whitehouse said she is “excited and looking forward to this new opportunity to serve the Town of Eastford as town treasurer.” According to Whitehouse, she has worked for the State of Connecticut for nearly 22 years in various financial positions. She is currently an Associate Fiscal Administrative Officer (AFAO) for the Department of Transportation in the Bureau of Finance and Administration. Before that, she worked in banking for four years at the Savings Bank of Manchester (now Key Bank).

Additionally, at the Board of Selectmen meeting on Monday, Sept. 14, selectmen accepted Whitehouse’s recommendation to appoint Amber Pond as the new Deputy Treasurer. According to state statute, the Treasurer has the authority to appoint their own deputy.
