In the Garden
I was speaking with a friend recently. She mentioned how her entire yard is filled with plants. As a result, she is constantly working outside. We talked about changing that in order to create areas for sitting. Doing this doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. You can “pave” an area with pine needles, traprock, bricks, Trex, concrete pavers, bluestone, wood chips, or even sand. Then add a few chairs and a table for your beverages, and you instantly have a place to relax instead of weeding, watering, or deadheading.
In these times of drought or deluge, tending to a garden is becoming more and more of a chore. This year’s summer was the hottest on record. This made gardening extremely challenging. We need a place to cool off, rest, and look at the garden instead of working in it.
Oh, and one more thing — don’t forget to finish your maintenance of grass before Oct. 15. After that, planting seed, liming, or feeding will be too late.
