Emergency Management Update
On Tuesday, Sept. 1, Eastford Emergency Management participated in the 2026 governor-mandated Emergency Planning and Preparedness Initiative (EPPI). The exercise focused on a severe weather event that progressed from flooding to high winds, road closures, and downed trees. Participants included James Roy, DEMD; Ben Schmidt, Public Works Supervisor; Bernie Dub, Communications Officer; and Deborah Richards, Emergency Management Director and First Selectman.
During the exercise, participants discussed their individual roles during an emergency, the resources available to the town, and the recordkeeping requirements necessary to apply for FEMA recovery funds. After the drill, we discussed what we could do differently in future exercises and reviewed new forms to use through WebEOC.
Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed their time and expertise. If you are interested in participating in emergency preparedness activities or serving on the Emergency Management Committee, please contact [email protected].
