Where did the summer go? Hot and humid weather is still predicted — so hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

The EIFC responded to 24 calls during July.

Annual hose and ladder testing was scheduled on Aug. 1. The purpose of the testing was to determine how much pressure the hoses can take and the strength of the ladders.

Santa returned to the Peppertree Campground on Aug. 8.

On a solemn note, members, along with Engine Tanker 171, Rescue 171, and UTV, participated in the annual “Silas Run” in memory of member EMS Lieutenant Silas Bunnell, who passed away in April 2018. Silas joined the EIFC as a Junior Member in 2013. He took pride in his work, offering his computer expertise and being only a phone call away to support his peers and fellow officers. Silas became proficient as a pump operator on Engine Tanker 171 and earned the rank of CAR 971 in June of 2017. There were approximately 300 people in attendance at the J.J. Webster Scout Reservation in Ashford for a “Celebration of Life” run honoring Silas on July 11. Run fees and donations are contributed to a fund in his name to help subsidize scholarships for potential Scout campers. There is always a true sense of fellowship and support from friends, family, and local fire departments in memory of Silas during the “Silas Run.” RIP – CAR 971.
