Windham-Tolland 4-H Camp News
Despite the heat, there was lots of fun and laughter, friendships made, and new skills learned at camp this summer. We ran at close to full capacity all summer, with 826 children attending for more than 1,475 camper weeks.
Come check out our Fall Tag Sale on Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Horse Camp entrance from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. We will have a wide range of donated items — furniture, vintage and antique, holiday, golf clubs, household and decorative goods, linens, toys, handmade cradle, and more.
As our summer program ends, we shift our focus to our Ragged Hill Woods Environmental Education Programs. Our fall homeschool days for children in Grades 2-5 will run from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Mondays as follows:
- Sept. 14 – Nature Detective Training
- Sept. 21 – Mapmakers and Trailblazers
- Sept. 28 – Tree Time Travelers
- Oct. 5 – Forest Feasts: Seeds, Nuts, and Survival
- Oct. 19 – Forest Floor Recycling Crew
- Oct. 26 – Rocks, Roots and Hidden Trails
Cost is $45 per child per class or $250 for all six weeks. Topics are being selected for our six-week Wednesday afternoon programs, held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., for children in kindergarten to Grade 6, from Sept. 9 to Oct. 21. As pictured with this article, the Ragged Hill Woods Program was recently awarded a $5,000 grant from the Chelsea Groton Foundation. We are extremely grateful for this award, which will be used to keep tuition costs as low as possible, allowing more participants to access the program. This is the second year we have received support from this foundation, and as you can see, it has made many campers smile.
