Library Kicks off 'Colonial Days' Summer Reading Program

EASTFORD — On Tuesday, July 7, the Eastford Public Library welcomed Revolutionary War reenactor Tom Angels, from History Without Walls, to kick off the library’s “Colonial Days Summer Reading Program - Week One: Colonial Life.” Angels, an amateur vexillologist (an expert or scholar who studies the history, symbolism, and usage of flags), gave attendees a lesson on Revolutionary War-era flags and their symbolism. He also walked people through the various types of clothing colonists would have worn. Children between the ages of 4-7 left behind their simple frocks and began dressing just as the adults in their lives! Young volunteers remarked on the heaviness of the many layers of clothing.
