Library Hosts Horror Author Chapman for Energetic Book Talk, Reception

EASTFORD — On Saturday, March 7, the Eastford Public Library hosted horror author Clay McLeod Chapman. It was afternoon of spirited energy from Chapman, who shared his passion for writing, talked about his books, and performed his short story, “Baby Carrots,” live for the audience. A Chesapeake-Bay-themed reception was given, celebrating three of Clay’s books. Patrons and guests enjoyed carrot cake made by Johanna Blanchette (“Baby Carrots”), warm crab dip and smoked oyster spread (“What Kind of Mother”) and an iridescent limeade “Spore” punch (“Shiny Happy People”).

As a surprise, Jody Blanchette contacted Shortwave Publishing to run a limited reprinting of “Baby Carrots” to have available for purchase. Julia from Book Club on the Go had copies of Clay’s books available for purchase; patron Dan Belanger made stickers of Clay’s face, as well as signs and posters to promote this event; and Nancy Amols Gingras was able to share an amazing horseshoe crab for our table decor.

“To say the Eastford Public Library rolled out the red carpet … is an understatement,” Chapman said on his Facebook page later that day. “This is going to be a tough book talk to top. … I can’t thank you all enough for a great discussion … to everyone who came out today, thank you so much. You’re the best.”
