From the First Selectman
Emergency Planning: Eastford recently took part in the annual mandatory drill organized under the Governor’s Emergency Planning and Preparedness Initiative. This year’s focus was on drought and the increased risk of wildfires. Representing Eastford were James Roy (Eastford Independent Fire Company), Ben Schmidt (Public Works), Bernard Dubb (Communications), and Deb Richards (Emergency Management Director/CEO). If you're interested in supporting Eastford Emergency Management, please reach out to [email protected].
In addition, Eastford successfully completed the quarterly radio communications test with CT DEMHS Region 4. Both of these activities are essential components in maintaining eligibility for Emergency Management Performance Grants.
Trout Dam Update: The work on Trout Dam is now officially complete and has been approved by the engineer. A big thank you to the Crystal Pond Commission, specifically David Barlow and Chuck Lee, for their dedication and persistence in getting this important project done!
Blair Farm Preservation: Congratulations to the Eastford Conservation Committee, and especially to Tom Hughes, for their efforts in preserving the historic Blair Farm. The farm, which has been in continuous production for 117 years, received a personal congratulations from Bryan Hurlburt, Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Agriculture, who expressed his appreciation that this land will remain preserved for future agricultural use.
Veterans Day Ceremony: Eastford will proudly participate in the upcoming multi-town Veterans Day Ceremony, taking place on Friday, Nov. 8, at 11 a.m., at the E.O. Smith High School Auditorium. This year’s event will honor all who have served, with special recognition given to our Vietnam veterans for their service and sacrifice. We invite the community to attend and join us in paying tribute to our veterans.
