Ceramics, photography, abstract expression, and portraiture — all rooted in the natural world — will fill the EASTCONN Conference Center on Thursday, June 4, when students from five of EASTCONN’s school programs open their “Inspired by Nature” Art Gala to the public.
The free exhibition runs from 4 to 6 p.m. at 376 Hartford Turnpike, in Hampton, and is open to families, educators, and community members. What makes this gala distinctive is the range of voices behind the work. Student artists represent five programs serving very different populations across northeastern Connecticut: Arts at the Capitol Theater (ACT) in Willimantic; Quinebaug Middle College (QMC) in Danielson; Bridges Community School in Columbia; and the Clinical, Developmental, & Therapeutic (CDT) Program and EASTCONN Transition Academy (ETA) in Willimantic. Together, they bring perspectives from more than 30 towns — including Windham, Killingly, Norwich, Putnam, and communities throughout the region. The "Inspired by Nature" theme invited students to look outward - at the landscapes, textures, and living things around them - and respond in their own visual language. The results span a wide range of media and styles, each piece reflecting something distinct about its maker. In addition to the artwork, the evening will include refreshments, a raffle, and a silent auction. Proceeds support the expansion of art programming for students.
