Recreation Commission Update
After a successful egg hunt in late March, the Recreation Commission has two events on tap for the coming weeks.
First up is a bike/scooter/stroller patriotic decorating contest during the Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 25. The parade steps off at 9:30 a.m. from the EES parking lot. For the bike contest, assemble at EES side parking lot prior to the parade. Judging will begin at 9 a.m. and close at 9:20 a.m. Judging categories include Most Patriotic, Most Creative and Best Overall. Kids of all ages are encouraged to bring their decorated non-motorized transport – bike, trike, scooter, wagon, wheelchair, skateboard, stroller, etc. This year is our 250th Birthday – so go patriotic, go long!
Next up is Experience Eastford on Saturday, June 6. The day will begin with the “Heart of Eastford” 5K run at 9 a.m. Last year we set a new record for number of runners, and we look forward to smashing the record this year. All proceeds go to individuals in need and also to help Eastford Food Pantry. Every year these funds help more than 20 families in need. Registration is here.
The day continues with Experience Eastford from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Eastford Elementary School. There will be vendors and exhibits, two live bands, a food truck, ice cream, baked goods sale, bounce house, the “hula hoop lady,” pie eating contest, games for kids, a car show at Bowen’s Garage and much more. Vendor/exhibitor registration is here
